    Physical Education

The John Fisher School’s belief is that education is concerned with the whole human being, a rounded education, and that every student has the ability to achieve something worthwhile or even to excel in some field.

Furthermore, through PE and Sport we aim to:

To provide the opportunity for all pupils to enjoy participation in sport and exercise.
To teach all pupils, through experience, the value and benefits of exercise.
Develop the individual’s self esteem through participation in sport and exercise.
Develop artistic and aesthetic understanding through sport & movement.
Provide experience of physical activities which should lead to lifelong participation.
Provide opportunities for pupils of all abilities to reach their potential
Promote the values of healthy living through sport and exercise.
To develop relationships and reliance on others through sport and exercise.

As such Physical Education is offered in many forms at The John Fisher School:

    Curricular PE Classes

Students in Years 7-10 have one PE lesson per week in which they will study a wide range of sports. These include gymnastics, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, health & fitness and athletics. The focus in these lessons is to improve skill levels, increase tactical awareness and develop the ability to evaluate their own and others' performance. In Year 11 students have one PE lesson per fortnight. Again a range of sports are offered, but the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment in order to give the students a well needed break from their studies.

    Games Lessons

In addition to their PE lessons, students also take part in a double games lesson each week.

In Years 7 and 8 the emphasis is on rugby for the first three half terms. This is then followed by a half term of football, which is taught by the BTEC National students. In the summer term, the students are offered cricket and athletics.

In Years 9 and 10 those students not playing rugby for the school spend a half term on each of football, tennis, badminton/squash and swimming. In the summer term the students are given the choice of a wide range of activities.

In Year 11 the students have a free choice of activity.

    Extra-Curricular Opportunities for Sporting Participation

The John Fisher school offers all students, irrespective of ability, the opportunity to further develop their skills and techniques in each of our major sports: rugby, cross country, football, cricket and athletics. These opportunities are made available through formal training sessions and a fixture list that includes other schools that enjoy a similar sporting pedigree and national recognition.
