    Mission and Ethos

Why does the John Fisher School exist?

The John Fisher School is a Catholic secondary school for boys of all abilities and all backgrounds. It exists to serve the educational needs of the Catholic community of Sutton, Croydon and neighbouring areas. As such, it will at all times seek, via opportunities for worship and prayer, and via the teaching of its religious studies programme, to deepen and enrich the Catholic faith of all its pupils. Further we seek to provide for these same pupils, access to real academic, sporting, musical and artistic excellence. We believe as well that all aspects of the life of the school should be lived in a spirit of justice and charity and that Christian selflessness should be part of all our dealings with one another.

    Our School MISSION:
Aspiring for Academic, Cultural and Sporting Excellence.

The John Fisher School is an outstandingly effective Catholic school...

The school is highly regarded and fully deserves the excellent reputation it has, both within the local Catholic community and beyond, as a beacon of Catholic education for boys...

Students value highly the excellent pastoral care offered by the school and all the opportunities it provides to them in terms of developing their spirituality, a very wide range of extra-curricular activities, as well as high quality teaching.

What do we aspire to be? Our School Vision and Ethos

The John Fisher School will provide an excellent education that will transform lives and the communities we serve. Enlivened with a curiosity and enjoyment for learning we will persevere to achieve beyond our expectations. Together we will act with selflessness and integrity in unlocking the God-given potential of every individual. Through our acceptance and respect for each other we will ensure everyone overcomes any barriers to success.

The spiritual dimension is of fundamental importance to our school. In addition to timetabled Religious Education lessons, each day begins with an act of collective worship. The School is fortunate in having a magnificent Chapel which allows students to participate in the full range of opportunities for collective and personal worship. Masses, Benediction, Liturgies and a full retreat programme are an important aspect of life at our School.

    The John Fisher School:
Celebrating over 85 years in Education & Aspiring to Excellence

There is an ethos of care and consideration for others. Very good relationships exist between staff and students. The school promotes students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development very well.

The sixth form is outstanding. Students achieve exceptionally well as a result of excellent teaching and are prepared well for higher education courses which meet their interests and aspirations.

Senior leaders and governors have a clear vision and sense of moral purpose for the school and its students. They work very effectively with parents and the whole school community to develop very well-rounded young men, ready for life.
